March Linkup

03/05/2009 7:00 pm

the upcoming DFMC Linkup on March 5th at 7pm. We'll be in our usual venue, in the backroom at the Village Deli. We have a good program planned, which will be about the current economic crisis and credit crunch. Monroe County Recorder Sam Allison will speak to us, along with Trent Deckard from Baron Hill's office, and others.

We also will be holding elections for two officers. First, our secretary, Carole Scifres, has resigned her office, and we need to fill that. According to our By-laws, a candidate for that position must be Member in Good Standing for one year. However, the By-laws also allow the Board of Directors to waive that rule by a simple majority vote. Such a waiver was passed at our last Board meeting. If you are interested in running, please e-mail our chairman, Chaim, at chair@democracyformonroecounty.org. You can also have another Member in Good Standing put your name into nomination at the Link-up. Members in good standing are eligible to vote, and they have been informed of this election.

In addition to the election of Secretary, we will also have a re-vote on the Chair's position. This is because a mistaken interpretation of the by-laws allowed ineligible voters to participate during our January Linkup. Therefore, Chaim is tendering his resignation as DFMC Chair, effective March 5th at 6:59 PM EST. If anyone is interested in running for Chair, please e-mail DFMC Vice-Chair Obie James at obiejames@gmail.com. The offices of Vice-chair and Treasurer, having been uncontested, will not be subject to the re-vote.

We will also deal with a minor change to the DFMC Bylaws regarding the adding of "training" to our statement of Purposes. Again, members have been informed of the details. We will make every effort to dispense with these items of internal business as quickly as possible so that we can get on with the program.
