Democrats for Sabbagh? Oh, Puh-lease!!!

I'm sure you've all seen the article in today's Herald Times about a group called Democrats for Sabbagh. As I read it, I noted that, except for a complaint about the slow pace with which the B-Line is being developed (more on that below), there is a conspicuous absence of policy differences with Mayor Kruzan. The problems they had with him were all personality-based, and some were downright silly.

'The biggest thing for me is the arrogance,' [retired IU professor Ron] Jensen said. He didn't give specific examples, saying arrogance is 'kind of a devilish thing to tie down,' but referred to attitude, demeanor and Kruzan’s attempts to make jokes. [Quoted from the Herald Times]

HUH? Jensen is criticizing Kruzan because the Mayor has a sense of humor? Excuse me while I fall down on the floor laughing at Jensen.

With regard to the B-Line trail: the reason its development has been slow is that the City is attempting to get funding for it from the state and federal governments. That way the City won't have to spend taxpayer money on the trail. I suppose if the B-Line were essential to the community, such caution might not be wise. With the pressing need for social services for the poor, however, I think it would be a crime to spend money on something that is essentially a luxury. I don't understand why these Democrats don't understand that. After all, aren't Democrats supposed to care for the poor?

Finally, it is significant that nearly half of these Democrats have personal issues with the Mayor. Some are disgruntled ex-employees, while otheres are disgruntled parents of ex-employees, and still others are developers who, up until Mayor Kruzan took office, had been able to get pretty much whatever they wanted whether it was good for the community or not. It seems, therefore, that what we have here is a harvest of sour grapes from which these people are producing an annoying vintage of whine.

[Update] I'm very tempted to send the Sabbagh Campaign a thank you note. Since their "Democrats for Sabbagh" mailer went out, and especially since the article about them in the Herald Times, donations to the Kruzan Campaign have been pouring in, and volunteers have started popping out of the woodwork.
